Sub-micron particle size. Macro-level performance gains.
Silica fume works differently than other admixtures — it doesn't just modify the paste, it transforms it. ATOM MSF is an ultrafine, amorphous silicon dioxide (SiO₂) powder with particles typically smaller than 1 micron — roughly 100 times finer than cement.
At that scale, it does two things simultaneously. First, it fills the micro-voids between cement grains, creating a denser, less permeable matrix. Second, it reacts pozzalanically with the calcium hydroxide produced during cement hydration, forming additional calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) — the same compound that gives concrete its strength.
The outcome is concrete that is harder, less permeable, and more resistant to chemical attack, abrasion, and freeze-thaw damage. For high-performance and infrastructure applications, MSF is often the difference between a spec that passes and a structure that lasts decades beyond its design life.
